‘Oh Mercy’ win The Red Bull Award – In Recognition of Outstanding Potential.
With the announcement for the winner of the fifth Australian Music Prize (The Amp 2009) just over a week away, Prize Director Scott Murphy and principal sponsor Red Bull are proud to announce that ‘Oh Mercy’ are the chosen recipients of the Red Bull Award In Recognition of Outstanding Potential.
For the fourth year now, Red Bull have offered $15,000 of career building support to an artist from The
Amp Shortlist that is considered to have a big bright future in music, both here and overseas.
Oh Mercy comprises Alexander Gow, Thomas Savage, Eliza Lam & Rohan Sforcina. ‘Privileged Woes’, their debut album, follows the success of their EP ‘In The Nude For Love’, and was recorded in a spare room, the size of a single bed, with Myles Wootton (The Panics) - the band literally had to put the mattress against the wall to record. The album was then mixed by Matt Voigt (Cat Power, The Dirty Three, Paul Kelly) and mastered by Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound (TV on The Radio, The Strokes). The band is managed by Natalie Bell and Matt Tanner of Milefire Management and the album was released on the independent label Casadeldisco Records, which is distributed in Australia by Shock.
